Houston-area movie theater chain to be acquired

Houston-based Star Cinema Grill will be acquired by a subsidiary of Mexico-based Cinemex.

Financial terms were not disclosed in the March 16 announcement.

The deal is expected to make the Cinemex subsidiary, CMX Cinemas, the seventh-largest movie theatre chain in the United States, according to a press release. CMX will acquire all 10 of Star Cinema Grill’s existing locations and one theater under development in The Woodlands, bringing the combine company to 504 screens across 51 sites in 13 states.
