The times, they are a changin‘ and no one knows when we’re getting back to life as we knew it. With the continuing spread of COVID-19, the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) is currently advising against gatherings of 50 or more. That means that eating in a restaurant dining room is a questionable proposition, even though several are making great efforts to ensure the whole process is as safe as possible, including removing tables to increase the distance between diners and sanitizing frequently.
In response to diner concerns, several restaurant owners are pivoting to focus on pickup and delivery services. That way, their customers can still enjoy their food without feeling like they are at risk (or putting someone else at risk).
A suggestion: to get maximum dollars to the restaurant and save yourself delivery fees, the best way to order is to call it in and then go pick it up. Many are even offering curbside delivery and will bring it straight to your car. (The exception is if the restaurant is using its own employees for delivery, in which case, delivery is helping keep them employed.) That said, using a third-party delivery service is better than nothing. Also, consider buying gift cards from your favorites now. This is a crushingly difficult time for the restaurant and bar industry, and every dollar counts. Sufficient support from customers means these places will still be here when COVID-19 is just an ugly memory.
Here are the restaurants making changes, and for our readers’ convenience, the list is organized by neighborhood. If you don’t see yours yet, we’re working on it. Check back shortly.

Bravery Chef Hall, 409 Travis, (713) 909-0691: Owner Shepard Ross says that, as of today, the food hall is using current employees to facilitate delivery in the downtown Houston area. Bovine & Barley, 416 Main, (832) 742-5683: According to Luis Villegas of Eightsix’d Hospitality Group, this downtown bar, which also offers a full menu, is reducing its hours and focusing on to-go orders.
