Question About Way Expired Out of State Plates

So I moved from Chicago to Houston last February for a job. I was totally negligent and lazy about transferring my drivers license, plates, etc and just ended up not doing it at all.

But lately i’ve been very paranoid about getting pulled over and potentially having the car impounded, especially since I realized i’m now driving around with out of state, expired plates with a 2021 sticker clearly visible.

Is it too late to get up to date registration, plates, etc without paying any exorbitant fees? Do I just proceed with the normal process and lie about my current plates? I feel like i’ve really worked myself into a pickle here.
