Parents of small children: how’s childcare in Houston???

I’d love to know where to go, what to do, who to talk to, what list to get on early, just any and everything that could help me secure childcare for a 3 year old, I’d appreciate it. We will be on Houston North (Bryan-Cypress-North Houston-North Katy) side. My sister is offering to watch him since she works part time nights, but my son needs to be around other kids his age for his development. I don’t want to wait until prek or kindergarten.

Here in NYC it’s free 3k and 4k classrooms and programs, you just have to find one with space and you good to go. I know it’s not the same in Houston so I’d love to know what to expect and hear about others experiences.
