Is the flooding that bad?

Hello,

I’m a Midwest native (IL & MN) and we are thinking of relocating To Texas with family. My mother is freaking out about me and my kids going to Houston because she said it floods bad which I know, of course, but is it that bad??? Like does it flood a lot throughout the year to the point you have to swim? Lol I’m just curious!
