In case you missed it! 2021 Year End Recap

It was a hell of a year in Houston.

Houston's Infrastructure has hit an all-time low. This includes a sewage system that is so bad even the federal government is telling it to fix it. It took two years to actually do anything. You have the winter freeze that knocked out power. On top of it all, your water bill has nearly doubled this past year. I am about as optimistic about the changes to flood management.

Maybe the rotting infrastructure pails in comparison to the crime wave that is sweeping the country. Houston and Harris County remain the lowest crime solve rates in Texas. HPD is a bit distracted as their police chief moved to Miami before quickly being let go (how did he last so long here again?). Their elite narcotics task forces are a bit preoccupied defending the murder charges. Only 9 have been charged so far. Oh boy! But we did get that criminal justice reform done. Now capital murderers are out and at it again.

It's OK because Houston has public education! Just kidding. The state is trying to take it over. School board members are now being indicted for corruption. Speaking of corruption. So is the mayor and the county judge. The former housing director is gone for ratting Turner.

If that wasn't enough: your taxes went up. It probably needs to because Houston has a historic $200mil shortfall.

It's the amenities that make you want to stay. Long, scenic drives on wide highways. Come to Houston's amazing concerts, put on by a performer who grew up just miles away.

From my family to yours this holiday season. Merry Christmas, /r/houston!
