After further evaluations…
I've been watching more QB tape for this years draft class and I think I've arrived to my final conclusion. First off, I'm completely fine and even on board with not taking any QBs this year, although I disagree with many people's reasoning on why. I'm only interested in 2 QBs this draft year, the first being Kenny Pickett. He's the most pro ready QB in this draft but I still think there's the question about his hand size and also I'm not comfortable yet with his ability to get rid of the ball quickly. He holds on to the ball way too long and I just don't know how he'll translate. Corral is pretty raw, moreso than I originally thought. He'll need a lot of development and still definitely need to sit out a year imo. I love his intangibles though. I wouldn't mind taking either one but I think it's best to skip for now. Bonus: I predict Carson Strong to the Steelers.
With that said, looking at Mills I still really believe he struggles with confidence in his own arm and rightly so. Not only is the power inconsistent but his accuracy is on and off too. If he can work on that this off-season, he'll take a nice step forward and we can begin a reevaluation then- preferably with a new OC and better protection/supporting cast. I'm also I'm agreement with the idea of bringing in Minshew or another capable QB to give Mills competition (we'll need a backup anyways and I don't think anyone wants more Tyrod).
Ok now here's where my beloved hot takes come in: after the 2022 season and if we determine we need to move on from Mills, then there are options in the draft. I think it is absolutely fated, for the purpose of comedy and out of sheer irony, that we will take Spencer Rattler. I'm joking but at the same time it's fate. Anyways, I don't think we'll land Young unless we go 0-17 and score less points than the lions (no one wants this especially if we make coaching staff changes and intend to have a good draft this year). There are other options but I still have a little hope for Rattler. Maybe he's been humbled, but I love his release and athletic ability. I think his arm is sufficiently strong BUT in order for me to buy in, I want to see better footwork, better decision making, better ball placement and he absolutely has to start getting rid of the ball faster.
