Am I crazy for thinking Aga’s is some of the best Indian food in town?

From my limited experience, Aga’s has the best Indian food I’ve tasted in Houston and Austin by leaps and bounds. If it matters, I myself am Hispanic so I have little idea what I’m talking about when it comes to authenticity — but I can definitely tell when food tastes good.

I’ve recently met a person (who happened to be Indian) who put me down for raving about Aga’s and suggested it’s not “authentic” enough and that it wasn’t that good, and I’ve met someone else who said it was mediocre and that Khyber was way better. I feel like we’re living in completely different universes here! I suspect some of the criticism may stem from the fact that Aga’s is a bit “mainstream” now since it has had rave reviews for who knows how long.

For those who are Indian or Pakistani, what is the general consensus on the quality and authenticity of Aga’s? Just curious and wondering if I’m missing out on some holy grail of Indian food that somehow surpasses this place!
