Electricity in Houston

Moving to Texas (Houston, of course) in a few months and just wondering how people deal with the frequent power outage. I work remotely so power and a solid wifi connection is crucial… those of you who are similar, how do you normally deal with this? How often does it actually occur and usually for how long? Also very confused about how power companies work in Texas…I’m being told you have to shop around?
