What is Houston’s gay scene like? How does it compare to Austin?

Hi, I'm considering moving to Houston and curious what the the gay scene is like and how it compares to Austin. I recently moved to Austin and admittedly know little about Austin's scene, but from what I can tell it seems pretty vibrant. I like Austin but I'm thinking of moving to Houston because it's cheaper and I know more people there.

I'm not into nightlife now that I'm in my 40s, but wouldnt mind hitting bars or clubs once every few months. I'd like to meet guys mostly through apps and and getting involved in meet ups and gay sports leagues. I am single and would like to date and make friends.
