Compiled season stats for the nerds out there

Howdy guys and gals.

After the recent stretch of seemingly poor offensive performances and pitching meltdowns I made the decision last night to actually compile the stats from the season and put them in an Excel document that can be sorted by sever criteria.

The criteria I decided on were Month of game, Home/Away, Result Type (Close or Blowout (5+ run diff)), Win/Loss, Opponent, and SP Handedness.

I went to Baseball Reference and pulled all the hitting and pitching data for every game this year and exported them to excel. I made a few manual edits to make things more friendly for the sorting, but overall it's pretty much exactly what was pulled from BRef. I then set up some drop down lists and functions to be able to sort the data based on the above criteria.

My biggest take away is that in the games we lose, the BABIP gods are merciless. In the month of September we have a team BABIP of 0.321 in wins but 0.223 in losses. However there is only a .001 change in BA between wins and losses.

Here is the link for the spreadsheet if anyone else wants to take a look at the data and mess around with it. Note that "*" in the drop down table denotes ignoring the filter for that variable. You will need to create your own copy of the sheet to be able to mess around with the filters.
