A little something to look forward to this season
Davis Mills, the third-round quarterback out of Stanford on the Houston Texans, will be the rookie of the year.
Okay, so just hear me out for a second. Tyrod Taylor was just named the starter for the Houston Texans ahead of their week 1 matchup against the Jaguars. Amid all of the controversy surrounding Deshaun Watson, this was expected. But, I would like to make the claim that Davis Mills will end up as the starter, and future franchise QB, of the Houston Texans by the end of the season. Let's run through Tyrod Taylor’s history, shall we?
Tyrod Taylor began his career with a 4 season stint with the Baltimore Ravens. Nothing special to talk about here. After this run with the Ravens, though, he was signed by the Buffalo Bills and was named the starter. In his third season with the Bills, he led them to the playoffs for the first time in a really really long time. And then was promptly traded to the Browns. But, this was in lieu of the Bills drafting Josh Allen, the MVP candidate from this past season.
Now let's move on to the Browns. The browns had the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft and chose to go with Baker Mayfield. Despite this pick, Taylor was named the starter for week 1 by the absolute GOAT, Hue Jackson. Baker Mayfield, however, came in and dominated the latter half of the season after a Tyrod Taylor injury. Baker Mayfield was the eventual runner-up for rookie of the year and is now the franchise QB of the Browns.
Now, on to the LA Chargers. Tyrod was brought in to be the backup to Philip Rivers, but, after Rivers left for the Colts in free agency, Tyrod was yet again thrust into the starting position in the 2020 season. But, Justin Herbert, the sixth overall pick out of Oregon, claimed the starting position from Tyrod in their week 2 matchup against the Chiefs after yet another Tyrod Taylor injury. Justin Herbert went on to break numerous rookie QB records and was named the rookie of the year.
Now, this leads us to the Houston Texans. in this year of 2021, Davis Mills, while it may not seem this way at first glance, has every tool to become the rookie of the year and an eventual franchise QB for the Houston Texans. Success always follows Tyrod wherever he goes (for whoever is backing him up, that is), and it is now up to Davis Mills to continue this legacy of usurpation and over-achievement.
Just to be clear, I am a die hard colts fan, but I was bored in between classes today and thought this would be funny. Hope you guys find some enjoyment out of it.
