Houston area population question

Hey guys, I’m doing some research on Texas population data and I have a question. I notice that Houston has the largest population in Texas, but what is the “Houston area” like? I’m asking this question because it looks like the areas around Dallas within 50 miles (Arlington, Fort Worth, Plano, etc.) are much more populous, but I don’t see this around Houston. Is the Houston area with 50 miles of the cities much smaller than Dallas within 50 miles of the city (population-wise)? I’ve never been to Houston (always wanted to go) so if you could help me out with this it would mean a lot. Thanks!
