Fire ants, please explain

Please help me understand. How is everyone just…OK with fire ants? When I ask people, all I get is “just stay away from the beds”. Well I still don’t get it, because not only is there a bed every 10 feet, but they are literally EVERYWHERE. Even on the sidewalks. How do people feel comfortable walking barefoot or even with sandals? How is it that people sit in the grass at the park? Are you guys like immune or something? Don’t feel the bites? Just don’t care??? I just can’t stop thinking about this and it makes me so goddamn mad. WTF is wrong with people?
