Free/Cheap/Notable Comedy in Town This Week!
I skipped last week but Houston comedy survived. Back at it this week.
Everybody's got their own risk tolerances and I sure hope y'all are vaccinated, but be aware most places aren't enforcing strict safety procedures so attend at your own risk. That being said there are now more opportunities for you to catch comedy in person than at any time in the last year. I'll list what I know about here. Let me know if I missed anything. I focus on standup shows, but there are plenty great improvisational comedy shows to catch at Station Theater and Comedy Sportz.
MONDAY, 6/7
AXELRAD
– 8:00 PM – Punchline Mondays (FREE) Wonderful weekly comedy show! Jeff Joe hosts and puts together a stellar lineup each week for a show upstairs at Axelrad. More info here
RUDYARD'S
– 8:00 PM – Open Mic (FREE) One of the best comedy open mics in the country happens every Monday at Rudyard's. They've got low ceilings, excellent pub food, and a full bar, making it feel like an old school comedy club (minus drink minimums), plus, the lineup is curated by Houston's comedy queen, Dusti Rhodes! EL PUEBLITO PATIO

AVANT GARDEN
– 9:15 PM – (Upstairs) GODDAMMIT! (FREE) is one of Houston's best comedy showcases. Drinks are irresponsibly cheap, it's free (unless you feel like donating), and the taco truck that's on the property is world-class. Every week, the show features some of the best comics in Houston, as well as frequent drop-ins from out-of-towners and famous comedians. Doors at 8, show starts at 9 (usually 9:30, realistically).
