How I Became An Astros Fan

I’m 19 and from Indiana and I’ve never really been a fan of any particular team. I usually just root for the small market teams but when I watched your team in the 2017 World Series, something just hit me. I think at first it was the crowd reactions from all of the crazy moments from those games. Then I noticed how beautiful MMP was. I was excited that you beat the Dodgers in the World Series.

Once 2018 rolled around I was excited to see what you guys would do in the season. I watched you guys get beat by the Red Sox in the ALCS. I was upset because I absolutely hate Boston, but I didn’t get too torn up about you guys losing.

When 2019 rolled around I still didn’t consider myself a “fan” of the Astros but I still followed them pretty closely because the players were super exciting to watch and the team chemistry was something I had never seen before. When Correa and Altuve hit those walk-offs in the ALCS… man….I’ve never been more excited watching baseball ever. But then they lost the World Series that year. It didn’t really bother me because I still didn’t consider myself a “fan” and I was also happy for the Nationals.

Obviously throughout 2020 the scandal stuff came out and I couldn’t stand the hate the Astros were getting. Yes, what they did was bad and it sucks that no one will ever look at them the same again, but the hate is getting annoying at this point. I’m sure you all know what I mean.

This is when I had that moment click for me. I had been following the Astros for a couple years now and I found that I was emotionally attached to the team more than ever. This is when I realized I could consider myself a fan. I know it sounds stupid but this is how I’ve felt about the Astros ever since the 2017 World Series. Like I said before, I wasn’t a fan of any team so shouldn’t I have absolutely hated the Astros for what they did? Well I didn’t because I couldn’t back away from the team I had been following and got so close to over the last three years. I chose to stick with them and support them. I was reminded of all the memories I had watching them over the last three years. Call me a bandwagon all you want but I wouldn’t trade this team for anything. I’m a fan for life now. Astros baseball is my source of happiness.

Also I’ve literally never been to Minute Maid Park or an Astros game in general because I live in Indiana. There’s nothing that I want to do more than to experience a game at MMP and I would do anything to go but it’s just hard to find time right now it’s just far from Indiana. Another thing that caught my eye about the Astros was the postseason atmosphere at MMP. Seriously, nothing tops it. The crowd. The HR canons. The train. The Gallagher Insurance sign that replaced the star in center field🤩… thanks Crane. Anyways, I also just bought my first Astros jersey. Bregman in white. I’ve never worn it out in public because of obvious reasons but just to have it means a lot to me.

It feels nice to finally have that one set team to root for and it feels nice to interact with other Astros fans on social media. I figured you guys might find this interesting so that’s why I posted it. Go Stros!
