Meet Mey-lin Alvarez | Creative Director at Meyd Creative
We had the good fortune of connecting with Mey-lin Alvarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mey-lin, what matters most to you?
Authenticity. I feel like it’s super underrated but is crucial in any relationship or scenario. We’ve allowed ourselves to be convinced that perfection is what our audiences want and have lost sight of the most important thing; remaining true to ourselves. Authenticity sells. It’s what sets us apart from other businesses and in this age, it’s a competitive edge. Your audience wants to know what goes on behind the scenes, who’s behind their favorite brands, and they want to relate. The way you present yourself to the world is your brand. Make sure you’re worth seeing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up, I found any excuse to put my creativity to work. I’d make candles, home/event decor, refurbish items, I was always looking for something new and different to do. Family, church, and school functions were like the Olympics for me, I’d prep like crazy, stock up on supplies and just thoroughly enjoy the process – haha. In 2017, after taking a break from college, I discovered the possibility of pursuing a creative career. and I never looked back. It hasn’t been easy, There are so many risks that come with pursuing your own business, and many more if in the creative field. I think the biggest obstacle has been self-doubt. It’s so easy to question yourself when there are hundreds of talented people in the same market, but I’ve learned that the best thing a creative or business owner can do, is be authentic and take it a step at a time. If there is one thing I want the world to know, it’s that I try to be true to who am I am in all my work and I’m excited for where that will take us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For starters, I am so incredibly grateful for the women in my life who have always nurtured my creativity; my mom, Yohani, and my sisters, Santa (Isha Prints) and Genesis. Secondly, I could never express my gratitude to the women who began to inspire me almost four years ago. Without even knowing me. Maria Alducin (The Montrose Studios) and I met at a Tapioca spot when I randomly DMed her on Instagram. In 2017, I began a blog (Pretty Lady League) to celebrate local businesswomen and Carla Lyles of Carla Sue took a huge chance on me when she agreed to be a guest speaker for the first (and only) event hosted. I can’t even express how much that means to me. I met Monica Rodriguez (PerfectShotHTX, now realty), Tasha Baggett (Team Jemini Designs), and Mehek Ahmed (Chauncey and Coco) all at local markets and they were amazing enough to let me interview them for the blog. I was facing a mental block when I decided to start PLL as a form of creative inspiration. At that time, female entrepreneurship wasn’t a tangible concept for me but these girls made it seem so easy and so worthwhile. I saw how hard they worked and how they invested in those around them, and it sparked something inside of me. Even now, seeing their success motivates me and gives me so much joy. I’m always rooting for them from the sidelines.
