Changing the Mind of the Religious

I’m not trying to be too deep here but as a former member of a very cult like religion, I want to point out that you can’t change the mind of a person who uses religious inspiration as a confirmation of their decision making. Logic and reason will always fail to convince them. What are your experiences with this?
