Just a warning – Never rent from MainStreet Renewal

I can finally post this as I feared retribution from them while currently living in a rented house from MainStreet Renewal.

DO NOT under any circumstance rent a house from this company. They are owned by Amherst and are a multi-national company buying up all the single housing supply and renting them out.

A small list of the (biggest) issues I encountered:

  1. Fence in the backyard was completely destroyed between the derecho and other strong storms. Each time it took > 3 months for them to get the work done. This stems from their incompetence between their maintenance portal, trying to get the cheapest fix, as well as sending their own employees to "patch up" a whole fence (which fell back down less than a week after fixing in one case). Calling them only gets you to international call centers that can't actually do anything but "send in a note". Any time I requested to speak to anyone higher-up they consistently said "no managers are available but we will have them call back". No call backs ever occurred. My dog loved the backyard, but couldn't be unsupervised for these ~6 months.
  2. On two occasions my water was out for over a month (to the point I was going to the restroom in a bag in the backyard). First was during the freeze about a little over a year ago and I had a pipe burst. When they finally repaired this issue, they didn't even repair the drywall from digging through the wall (more on this later). I also had a sewage backup in which raw sewage was coming out of the toilets, tub, and showers. I had to leave a complaint with the BBB before they would finally send some one out. I know this is highly illegal but they don't give a s**t. I still have the pictures and can remember the smell. Once they finally had plumbers come fix the issue, I was left to myself to clean up the mess.
  3. I cleaned the house spotless before moving out. No damage to any part of the house. This was the only place I've ever lived where I did not get the full deposit back. They deducted the drywall fix (see point 2) for almost $200. Another $150 for cleaning. I had my lawn guy come and do the front and back including hedges the week before the move out date. Was charge $175 for "landscaping". Other bogus charges were involved and I only got 50% of my deposit back. They sent an email saying someone would call me for a move-out walkthrough and surprise… they never called. I called their hotline to report this and they said someone would call… never did (see a pattern here?).

I am just happy to be out and will just eat the lost deposit because dealing with them makes me want to blow my brains out. So yea, NEVER rent from these leeches unless you want to be treated like an animal.

Be warned. Cheers.
