Parking citation advice

This morning I accidentally parked in a handicapped parking spot in downtown Houston for less than an hour and got a parking citation for $500. I fully understand it is my fault and am willing to pay the citation if it comes down to it but I am wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the amount reduced? Is it worth trying to contact a lawyer? Again, I’m not making excuses but it truly did not look like a handicapped spot with additional space and also was not in front of a building or anything so I quickly got out of the car and missed the signs. Would appreciate y’alls advice.
