Time to admit it…
The Rangers and Mariners are simply better teams. All season I’ve been caught up in narratives of past Mariner failures and the mirage of Texas’ record (despite an elite run differential), and clung to the Astros “names”. But you look at the actual rosters themselves, and the Astros simply don’t have as many quality players. Hunter Brown, Framber sometimes, Yordan, those guys are top shelf. Peña is decent, Altuve is sometimes good, and Abreu can be good. Outside of that, it’s a pretty mid ball club which, before the season, we were just hoping would squeeze into October.
It hurts but this is starting to feel like those post-Clemens years when they had a few good players like Berkman, Pence, Wandy, and El Caballo, but not enough juice to actually threaten.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel, cuz anything can happen in baseball, but for the first time this really feels like the end of the party.
See yall tomorrow
