A (non-snob) coffee addict’s guide to Houston coffee shops

Disclaimer: These are just my opinions. I’ve usually only been to these spots once or twice, so YMMV! Even for places I rate as “great work/study spaces,” please be considerate — don’t loiter for hours without buying multiple drinks, and try not to hog space from paying customers. Also I’m no coffee expert by any means, but I usually ordered a latte or cold brew with whole milk, and sweet pastries (if I got food).

La Tazza

Coffee: 10/10
Food: 3/10
Working Spot: 7/10
Very sweet lattes, great coffee, and super nice owners. Cute, small space — sometimes overcrowded in the afternoon but usually fine. Not many food options.

Slowpokes (Stella Link)

Food: 5/10
Working Spot: 6/10
Wi-Fi time limit, but comfy work/study space. Pretty good coffee. Food is decent but pricey for the portions. Gets crowded in the afternoon.

Brass Tacks

Working Spot: 8/10
Great coffee, big space with cool outdoor seating (unshaded, so hot in summer). Gets crowded inside but still plenty of seats and outlets.

Segundo Coffee Lab

Coffee: 7/10
Food: ??
Working Spot: 7/10
Pretty good coffee in a cool building with shopping. Shared seating with nearby restaurants, so easy to find a table. Dispensary across the way — you can get THC/CBD in your coffee.

CoffeeTrend

Coffee: 7/10
Food: 5/10 (great when they have it!)
Working Spot: 6/10
Good coffee. Tiny inside with a few big outdoor benches on the bayou. Usually not crowded. Unsure about Wi-Fi. No food except occasional tacos/baked goods.

Tiramisu latte = dessert in a cup (and $$). Limited seating inside, decent outdoor tables. Great food. Not ideal for working — busy and unsure about Wi-Fi.

Solid coffee, rarely crowded. Great work/study vibe. Pastries look average.
