Had anyone ever had any luck with the HPD helping them with theft?

So, on Friday, someone broke into my car and stole my purse when I was at Sylvan Rodriguez Park in Clear Lake. Yes, I thought I was being careful by hiding it, but it must have been someone watching me. I reported it the the police and even told them the wal mart they attempted to use my cards at. After a failed attempt at spending any money at Wal mart, they somehow managed to cash checks of some sort and get all the money from my savings. I have to call them again and update them on this. I believe if they had just gotten the footage from Walmart, maybe this wouldn't have gotten to where it's at. My question is, has anyone had any luck with HPD assisting with getting their stolen good back, or a case closed and the culprit found? Or police help?
