27M Looking to buy a home in Houston Texas.. where do I start?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been looking all throughout Google & rocketmortage trying to figure out the right steps to buying a home in Houston.

I’m a 27M making roughly 70k a year. I have about 25k-30k to use as a down payment and closing costs and I’m looking for a home in the $190,000-$250,000 range

Where do I start?

I follow a couple of realtors on Instagram and they all say the first thing to do is get pre approved. Where do I do that? (My bank ?)

I’m just confused on if I should be looking at areas first, contacting a realtor, or getting pre approved and if so by who?

I also hear about FHA and first time home buying loans in Texas and do I contact my bank for this? Or is this a government backed loan similar to student loans?

Im really just confused on how and where to start and was hoping maybe a few of you could shed some light for a dumb confused 27 year old in Houston.
