Read MoreLooking into getting solar for my home and trying to determine the cost/benefit and return on investment. Especially with the 26% tax credit, I wanted to see what the cost would be like. I went through Costco and got an estimate from Sunrun.
It appears their cost per kw is roughly .18, (annual payment/power generated) at least for my setup. This seems high, although rates are way up from the past couple of years.
I’ve researched historical rates, and only once did rates hit above .18 in 2008. Sunrun says they predict a 5% increase in electric rates per year so I wanted to check historical rate for reference.
I’ve taken average monthly rates from the month of June from 2002 to now for avg use of 1500KWh and it appears rates have been pretty stagnant over the last 10 years. I know it’s not the most scientific method but just trying to get a feel for price per KW during the same timeframe every year.
avg 1500kW month use for the month of June: 2002 7.89 2003 9.33 2004 9.69 2005 11.7 2006 14.63 2007 13 2008 14 to 21 2009 10 to 17 2010 8 to 12 2011 7 to 11 2012 8 to 13 2013 8 to 13 2014 8 to 14 2015 7 to 12 2016 7 to 13 2017 8 to 12 2018 didn't have June 2019 8 to 12 2020 9 to 13 2021 10 to 13
Also, the Sunrun rep said two infrastructure bills passed for Texas to upgrade it’s power grid so those costs will probably be passed onto us, thus raising rates.
What you guys think? where do you think rates will go from here?
