New Astros Fan! Where should I start?

Hey all!

My son finally settled on a baseball team for us to watch together. I never had any attachment to a team growing up since my family wasn’t ever into sports, but while I was overseas in Korea – I became very fond of the sport, and I knew that once I had kids of my own, I’d want to share baseball with them.

My oldest just turned 6, and we’d tried picking a team together over the past couple of weeks – today he landed on the Astros.

I am pretty excited to start our journey in baseball together, so as new Astros fans, what should we know heading into our first season together?

What are some good podcasts, or any resources we’d need to get up to speed.

LPT: Use parking shuttles if you’re accompanying someone to IAH.

If you’re accompanying someone into the airport (ex: elderly parents), park at one of the shuttle lots (ex: Ecopark) and go into the airport with your guest via the shuttle. When your guest leaves, just take the shuttle back to your car. The shuttles pick up and drop off right by your car.

Do NOT drop your guest off at the drop-off lanes and park at the hourly garages. The cost-savings (if any) of hourly parking are not worth the hassles:

  • Construction near the terminals is a mess. You will miss entrances and exits.

  • Hourly garage parking is scarce. You will waste time hunting spots that don’t exist and inevitably end up parking on the roof far away from the underground train link that connects to various terminals.

  • Airline kiosks are understaffed. Save your time and energy in case you need to fight airline BS on behalf of your guest.
