Hey, all. Hope you’re having a lovely Sunday. I had no idea what to title the thread.

Quick intro: I’m a 28-year-old male from Europe currently spending some time in Houston. I am pursuing my master’s degree in social anthropology, and as part of the degree, we are required to conduct fieldwork, a project of our own choosing. I am personally interested in the US and immigration, so I decided to come to Houston. I’ve been trying to work with a local organization to gain access, but haven’t had much luck, so I’m looking to expand. This project will be the basis of my thesis.

What exactly am I looking for? Well, I’m curious about exploring the experiences of young immigrants in an urban setting within a Houstonian context. Why you came here, how you adapt to new social and cultural norms, how it affects your identity, etc etc. So I’m wondering if anyone would be open to sharing their personal experiences and viewpoints. This is totally informal and very casual. I don’t plan on collecting your name or any personal info that could identity you. Everything is anonymized.

It would be ideal to meet in person, but if that’s something you’re uncomfortable with, I am open to communicating online as well. I am an introverted researcher after all, heh. If it would be possible to gather in groups somehow, that would be the best use of time. I hope to stay in touch over some period of time; I’m staying here until the end of April.
