Affordable, temporary housing in Houston

Hey, all.

I’m an anthropology student from Norway, and I’m considering conducting my fieldwork in Texas next semester (January-May). At the moment, I’m looking at Houston. Before I plan anything concrete, I just want to get an overview of my housing options before fully committing. I know there is Airbnb, but I’m wondering if I have other options? Just looking for something decent and affordable where I can stay for around 5 months.

Thanks in advance!

Bush Airport closing entirety of Terminal E starting August 1st

Those of you trying to get to the airport to fly out, or pick up people, expect MASSIVE traffic. Not only will the Terminal itself be closed, but the roads to get to it will as well so plenty of people will be lost, wandering around, trying to figure out where they need to go.

Start planning if you’re flying out starting August 1st. ✈️✈️✈️

Need info on dental surgery cost

I am an incoming international grad student joining university of Houston. My flight is less than a week’s time. I consulted a dentist today and he informed me that I would eventually undergo a dental surgery called ‘Surgical extraction of impacted tooth’, and there’s not enough time now.

I would appreciate if anyone could inform me about the ballpark cost of the said procedure around Houston.

Thank you.

What is the status on Houston construction?

I know Houston is gonna Houston, but especially here recently it feels like there’s been a ton of construction seemingly everywhere. It’s making it so miserable to get around anywhere. I work at the Starbucks on Shepard and there’s been construction there for months. There’s construction on 610 in multiple areas. It’s a mess and a pain in the ass.

Is it all in service of a better city? I mean I suppose I like seeing progress get done, but I’m not sure the status of scope of it all. I’d love to hear any takes on it.
