Month: February 2021

Hey Houston, I’m hoping you can help me figure out which area(s) to be house shopping in.

First, to anyone who suffered (or still suffering) through the recent crazy weather & power issues, my prayers go out to ya.

I’m moving to Houston to be closer to family in the region. I’m currently in VA. I’ve been looking in the Galleria area and also Pearland Sugar Land but my knowledge of the area is limited outstof a few visits. Here are my details. Any advice would be great.

  • I’m a single guy, working from home.
  • Working in the tech industry (startups).
  • but not a kid, lol. I’m 40.
  • looking for housing in the sub $375k range.
  • living alone with a puppy.
  • I’d rather a townhouse or single family home vs condo/ apartment.
  • Would love to live in a (dog)walkable neighborhood with amenities (restaurants, grocery, gym maybe or other stuff to do) nearby.
    • I value space/ yard for the pup but probably value the being walking distance to stuff more.
  • I drive & would want a garage.
  • I value diversity which is part of why I love Houston.
  • I’d love to buy somewhere that’s a smart long term investment but that’s lower priority for me.
  • I really like modern architecture.

Feel free to ask any additional questions that you’d seem important. ANY advice as to where I should be looking would be helpful.

Thanks and I’m looking forward to calling your beautiful city my new home!

Most likely outcome of current state

Let’s face it, DW wants nothing to do with Easterflee and Cal. The Texans insist they won’t trade, and you have to think with the $21M in cap hit they almost can’t trade him. They would have to cut everybody. Easterflee was definitely behind the Mercilus signing among other things – the shape to come. His fingerprints are all over this mess. So what happens?

Experience says players can and will sit out and they are getting more and more resolve. DW learned from what Clowney did. He learned from AB and Bell. He knows he will eventually get his way. The other thing about DW is he is a $ saver or should I say less extravagant than normal star football players. You don’t see tons of luxury items with him and an entourage to pay. He has the money to do it. With him it is principle. He won’t turn on everyone behind him – guys like Andre and DeAndre are probably talking to him a lot. He’s pretty dug in for the long haul.

The Texans will look so stupid not trading him before the draft they will put on a full display of woebegones when DW sits out, and complain about how terrible this all is. There will be ungodly things leaked and it will be u-g-l-y. After 2 or 3 games and a few million later, DW will come back but he will do the Harden at that point. He will play, and put on the show, but won’t care, and probably won’t play well at all. In the process he will purposefully degrade his value.

Then the Texans will finally decide/have to trade him, but they will only get about half of what they would’ve gotten had they traded him before the draft. The cap hit was harsh, but they will still have the same problem even then. They ALWAYS delay, the the delay is always what crushes them in these trades, along with their stupidity but Nick will probably help there. With Nick not sure if he is just a disciple or will stand up to Easterflee or not.

What other outcome could there possibly be? Again this is just my opinion, I would be interested in what others think. There are two other scenarios – one brought up by Lopez where he opts out from Covid. I find that unlikely. Another is that he files some kind of grievance and gets arbitrators and the NFLPA involved. That will be a new thing.

Lastly wonder what the NFL thinks. They are probably watching this very closely.

Looking for a homemade burger or HISD burger

Hello all,

Bit of a strange question, was hoping I could get some insight here. My brother is turning 30, and for his birthday party tomorrow (I say party but it’s just us and his gf), he wants to relive the early 2000’s with some honest, 4th-grade style fun. This includes video games and the quintessential “how in the world can you eat this kind of food and not die” spread, which includes pizza, Kool Aid Jammers, gushers, fruit by the foot, Doritos, wings, etc.

Part of this spread should include home-made char grilled hamburgers. My brother mentioned that he wanted this specifically. However, I have never come to own a classic grill on which to make said classic burgers.

I’m looking for a burger joint that is NOT flashy or fancy, not particularly low quality either, but something that would resemble what a dad in his crispy New Balances and freshly mowed lawn would serve to his kids after a long day in the pool. Maybe they’d go to the movies later and even get M&Ms.

Is there a burger place I can buy these from? I am not a fan of the Burger Joint, not looking for Squable’s fancy small burgers, but something along the lines of an HISD burger or what Kevin & Jason’s dad made. He wants it to feel like it’s middle school lunchtime, or a middle school weekend, and I want to deliver.

Thanks!

(PS – I already got all the necessary Pokemon and Mario gear including cups, decor and plates. Any other ideas are appreciated)

RV Park Being Built in Luce Bayou Floodway, Floodplain

An angry Houstonian wrote me earlier this week about a new RV park. It lies mostly in the floodway of Luce Bayou next to Huffman/Cleveland Road – near rotting shells of abandoned homes, repeatedly flooded. This is inside the City of Houston. So the City permitted it, not Harris County. “The Retreat” Will Debut This […]
