I’ve seen a lot of people recently talk about how Deshaun is not acting correctly because he just signed a big contract. I’d like to throw out why I think he is justified in trying to push for a trade:

Let’s go back to the contract negotiations and say that all he cared about was money. Well, then the contract could be simply that they pay him and he plays, no matter the situation around him. But what if the contract, although maybe not specifically written this way, was based on the assumption that it was him playing in return for money + an organization that was committed to winning? Realistically, he could have gotten similar money elsewhere, so why did he decide to stay with the Texans? If they told him that winning wasn’t all that important, would he have re-signed? If they said that building a Christian organization was more important than a competitive football team, would he have stayed? In other words, the contract wasn’t just about money – there were intangibles included, although they may not have been explicitly written.

If you sign for a company as they make promises about where the company is going, and then they pull the rug out from under you and deliver something else, you would be pissed and want out. Legally, you may not have any way out, but if we are talking about whether the desire to leave is “justified” or if Deshaun is just being a crybaby millionaire, I would say that he is completely justified. The fact that he is paid millions means basically nothing, except for the fact that people think if you are paid at that level, you should just shut up and be grateful. But the reality is that his skills are worth that rate on the open market, and it’s ok to expect the organization to fulfill their end of the deal of putting out a competitive team.

We’ve been talking almost entirely about Miami and NYJ as of late, but are there any other dark horse candidates that may able to come up with a good offer for Deshaun?
