I live in San Francisco but spent a summer in Houston teaching way back in 2007. One of my passions is exploring google maps and getting to ‘virtually’ know cities (which I have plenty of time for right now). I just wanted to say that I remember really being impressed with your city 13 years ago–it was such a diverse place, and the food was fantastic. I believe that Houston is often described as ‘ugly and flat’. I found it beautiful. The trees, neighborhoods, the randomness in the urban fabric.
Thinking about exploring deeper when I am able to. What are your favorite parts of town? Neighborhoods, streets, restaurants, bars, parks, etc.

We’re Generation SERVE, a nonprofit organization committed to engaging children in volunteerism and empowering them to make a difference in their communities.
We were founded in Austin in 2009 and expanded our Family Volunteering Program to Houston in October 2019 in partnership with the Center for Family Philanthropy at Greater Houston Community Foundation and currently help over 40 nonprofit partners.
While we normally have many in-person activities to sign up for on our calendar, those are currently on pause because of the pandemic. We do have many ways to virtually volunteer from home!
We’ve been highlighting a different service topic each week and pair it with an activity on our website or on our Facebook or Instagram pages. More topics will be added!
