20 years ago we had a white Christmas

On this date 20 years ago this evening, the Texas coast experienced its first and only recorded "white Christmas". A historic snowstorm brought significant amounts of accumulation to the coastal areas with maximum totals of 9-12 inches from Victoria to Lake Jackson. This was the first snowfall recorded in Brownsville in over 100 years and the most snow ever recorded at Victoria (12.5 inches)

Even with clear skies and warming temperatures snow remained on the ground until the 27th and 28th where the largest accumulations occurred.

The chance of a "white Christmas" anywhere along the Texas coast is statistically near zero, making the 2004 snowstorm memorable.
