1st Year of Season Tickets – Review

The 31-3 loss to the Jaguars on Fan Appreciation Day was a fitting end to a miserable season. Every Sunday, I would throw on my Pitre jersey, head down to NRG Stadium, and watch the Texans find a new way to lose in spectacular fashion.

Season Recap:
Colts – Lovie played for the tie in OT
Chargers – kept it close, but never really stood a chance
Titans – Derrick Henry ran for 200+ yards
Eagles – everyone in the stadium was wearing Astros/Phillies gear and watching World Series on their phone
Commanders – Texans had -5 yards at halftime
Browns – held the Browns offense to 6 points in a 27-14 loss
Chiefs – fumbled away the ball in OT
Jaguars – hungover from NYE

Not once did we leave NRG Stadium with a W. My 1st year of season tickets was quite the experience and here are some thoughts:

Fans – the stadium was rarely over 50% full and every game was a home game for the opposing fanbase. The Chiefs, Eagles, and Commanders fans were probably the loudest.
Jerseys – most Texans fans had Watt, Hopkins, Johnson, and other past Texans player jerseys. Some Pierce, Stingley, and Pitre jerseys near the end of the season though.
Halftime – the Paul Wall & Slim Thug halftime shows were awesome. Definitely need more of this.
Music – this needs some work. That DJ booth thing they have is not hyping anyone up (not for lack of trying) and Bulls on Parade just doesn’t hit the same in front of a 25% full stadium.
Seats – we did the Directors Club and the experience was very enjoyable. Separate entrance with express elevator that takes you right up to 7th floor. Food menu (included with ticket cost) was different every week and actually pretty good + plenty of snacks/non-alcohol drinks you can enjoy throughout the game. Seats are high up and you can’t see the scoreboard (mildly frustrating) but overall a fun experience.
Concessions – prices were great for an NFL stadium with their Touchdown deals. I guess they need some way to convince fans to show up.
App – easy way to pay for things (alcohol) throughout the season and the STM 10% discount would be applied automatically with the app.
Parking/Tailgates – we were in Red lot. Pretty much a ghost town. Great for parking, sad for tailgating. Blue lot seemed okay, but nothing compared to past years.

Overall, the STM experience was enjoyable despite the pathetic display of football that was on the field each week. Hopefully some coaching changes, roster changes, and even uniform changes can start moving this thing in the right direction. Anyone else signing up for another year of torture? I’ll be renewing for 2023 because it can’t possibly get any worse, right?

….right?
